# Respira and Yoast SEO

With Yoast SEO active, Respira writes a page's SEO title, meta description, focus keyphrase, canonical URL, robots settings and social titles into the fields Yoast reads, so your AI can fix SEO the way you would in the Yoast box.

## What works

- Pages and posts: SEO title, meta description, focus keyphrase, canonical URL, Open Graph title, description and image, X (Twitter) title, description and image.
- Robots: a robots value such as "noindex, nofollow" is written to Yoast's noindex and nofollow settings, plus noimageindex, noarchive and nosnippet.
- Categories, tags and other terms: the SEO fields go to the option Yoast really reads for terms (wpseo\_taxonomy\_meta), not to term meta it ignores. The answer says where each field landed.
- Each SEO field is stored as a single text value, the shape Yoast's editor expects, so a wrapped value from an agent cannot break the Yoast box.
- The SEO and answer engine analysis tools read the Yoast fields and score them with the page.

## What it does not do

- Yoast's site-wide settings (title templates, schema defaults, the XML sitemap) are not written; change them in Yoast.
- Yoast SEO Premium redirects are read, for the loop check and the redirect list, and never written. New redirects go to Redirection or Respira's own list.

## The tools involved

`respira_update_page`

Writes the page's SEO fields through its seo object, on a draft copy of a published page.

`respira_update_post`

The same for posts.

`respira_update_term`

SEO fields for a category, tag or other term.

`respira_analyze_seo`

Reads the page and its SEO fields and reports what to fix.

`respira_check_seo_issues`

Finds missing or duplicate titles and descriptions across the site.

Every write saves a snapshot first, and on a published page the change lands on a draft copy you approve.

## Prompts to try

- `Write an SEO title and meta description for every service page that has none, under 60 and 155 characters.`
- `Set the pricing page to noindex while I rework it.`
- `Give each blog category a Yoast title and description that match its posts.`
