WordPress 7.0 "Armstrong" shipped yesterday. AI is now a foundation primitive of WordPress, not a plugin afterthought. A lot has landed on respira.press in the last ten days that connects to it. Here's what's new and why each one might matter to you.

Concentric Saturn-like rings rendered in deep teal and cream, abstract framing for WordPress 7.0 Armstrong

Editorial · 5 min read · published 2026-05-20

WordPress 7.0 Armstrong shipped. The substrate just changed.

900+ contributors. 279 first-time contributors. Abilities API, AI Client, Connectors screen, Client-Side Abilities package, all in core. After four years, the project earned the version bump and chose the AI cadence with it.

The one small gap that ships with 7.0 is that the official MCP Adapter registers no abilities publicly by default. The documented workaround is a PHP filter in a mu-plugin. Inhale is the settings page that replaces that filter. Tick boxes. No PHP. In time for Armstrong.

Inhale: MCP Abilities. Decide ability by ability what your AI can see.

WordPress 7.0 ships an Abilities API. The official MCP Adapter hides every ability by default for safety reasons. Inhale is the settings page that flips them on, ability by ability, with full read of permission, callback, schema, and a small Caution banner on destructive ones.

  • Free. GPL. On the wp.org Plugin Directory.
  • Works with Claude Desktop, Cursor, Claude Code, ChatGPT Desktop, every MCP client.
  • Plays nicely alongside Respira for WordPress. Respira ships its own ability registry; Inhale exposes the rest.

From inside the chat · v6.17+

Automatic bug reports, filed without leaving Claude.

When something breaks during a session, your agent now has a tool called respira_report_issue. It files a structured bug report straight into respira.press with site URL, builder + version, MCP version, OS, and the last tool call attached. Privacy hard line: no prompts, no tool args, no tool results, no WP content.

Free customers can file bugs from today. Feature requests stay paid (Maker plan and up) so the queue stays focused on what's blocking real work.

@respira/wordpress-mcp-server · v6.18.1

MCP server update. SOUL.md, search_docs, real error codes.

Four changes in the last two weeks worth saying out loud.

  • SOUL.md. An agent persona file loaded into every MCP handshake. Identity, voice, values, rules of engagement. Mirrored at respira.press/soul.md for use outside MCP (Cursor system prompts, Claude Projects, GPT custom instructions).
  • respira_search_docs. Full-text search across the Respira documentation, mirrored nightly from the docs repo. The agent now hits the docs first before offering to file a bug, because most "bugs" are documented known issues with workarounds.
  • respira_report_issue. See above.
  • Real error classification. The mcp-quality dashboard caught that every error in telemetry was collapsing to the literal string Error. v6.18.1 stamps the actual WP_Error code (respira_no_builder, respira_element_not_found, and so on) onto the telemetry, and v7.0.43 attaches structured recovery hints to the worst offenders so agents stop blind-retrying.

If you have Claude, Cursor, or Codex configured already, the next session picks this up automatically via npx. Nothing to do.

Inside the dashboard · every plan

Earn. Bill what AI cost, per client, per site, per tool.

Every AI agency in 2026 is guessing at what to charge. Earn is the dashboard view that gives you numbers instead. Real AI cost of every tool call, attributed to the WordPress site it ran on, rolled up by client, by tool, and by month.

  • One slider from 1x to 10x against AI cost so you can see what to invoice on top.
  • Privacy hard line: metadata only, no prompts, no tool results, no WP content.
  • Opt-in. One paste into ~/.zshrc from dashboard/settings/earn. Revocable in two clicks.
