Respira for WordPress is a plugin that enables AI coding assistants (like Cursor, Claude Code, Windsurf, Codex CLI, and Hermes Agent) to safely edit live WordPress sites. It uses a duplicate-first workflow where pages are duplicated before editing, allowing you to review changes before publishing.

Respira uses a duplicate-before-edit workflow. When an AI requests to edit a page, Respira first creates a duplicate, makes changes to the duplicate, and lets you review before publishing. In plan mode every write comes back as a step with its predicted effect and nothing is written until the plan is applied, in any MCP client. Deletes go to the trash with a snapshot, theme file writes keep the previous bytes, the options that lock people out of a site are refused to every agent, and every write is render-checked, the block editor included. It also includes XSS/SQL injection protection, content validation, and one-click rollback.

Respira works with any AI tool that supports the MCP (Model Context Protocol). This includes Cursor, Claude Code, Windsurf, Codex CLI, Hermes Agent, and other MCP-compatible assistants. It also works with GitHub Copilot through its API.

Respira supports 17 page builders: Gutenberg, Elementor, Divi (Divi 4 + Divi 5), Bricks, Oxygen (Classic + Oxygen 6), Beaver Builder, Breakdance, Flatsome, Brizy, Visual Composer, WPBakery, Thrive Architect, Spectra, Kadence Blocks, GenerateBlocks, GreenShift, SeedProd. Each one has its own extraction and injection path. Divi and Oxygen each cover two generations under one integration. The Gutenberg-native block libraries (Spectra, Kadence Blocks, GenerateBlocks, GreenShift) are read and written through the Gutenberg block path, with their blocks and attributes taken from the live block registry on your site rather than from a Respira-authored schema pack. SeedProd is read and audit only: agents report on its landing pages but do not write them.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard protocol that allows AI assistants to interact with external tools. Respira provides an MCP server that AI tools can connect to, giving them the ability to read page content, list pages, edit content, and manage WordPress sites safely.

Respira is designed to prevent this. All edits are made to duplicates first, content is validated for security (XSS, SQL injection), and you can rollback any change with one click, a delete included. The site owner can switch any tool off or pick the Observe, Content or Everything profile, and the switch holds on the npm server, the REST API and the site's own MCP endpoint alike.
