The AI tools for editing WordPress in 2026 differ most in how deep they reach: some write text inside a block, some build whole sites on their own hosting, some edit one page builder’s layouts, and a few let Claude or ChatGPT change any page on a live site. The second difference is what happens to a page that is already published, and the third is how you undo a change. For text, Jetpack AI or WordPress’s own AI plugin is enough; for one builder, that builder’s AI; for real pages on live sites across builders, a connector that edits a copy and keeps a restore point, which is what Respira for WordPress does.
I make Respira, one of the tools below. Every fact about the others comes from their own product page, help centre or WordPress.org listing, linked where it appears, read on 15 October 2026. “Not stated” means their page does not say.
The short answer
- Write and rewrite text in the block editor: Jetpack AI Assistant or WordPress’s own AI plugin.
- A new site from a prompt: WordPress.com’s AI Website Builder, 10Web or ZipWP.
- Inside one page builder: Divi AI or Elementor AI and Angie.
- Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor changing a live self-hosted site: a connector. WPVibe or AI Engine for broad free tools; Respira when the pages are built in page builders and an edit to a published page has to go to a copy first and be undoable.

Four depths of editing
- Post text. The words inside a paragraph or heading. Almost every tool here can do this, and a mistake is easy to see and fix.
- Blocks. Adding, moving and removing blocks in the block editor, global styles and templates. WordPress.com’s MCP works here; the WordPress AI plugin edits the text inside blocks.
- Page-builder layouts. Elementor, Divi, Bricks and the other builders store a page in their own format. A tool that does not write that format either cannot change the page or breaks it.
- Theme files and code. Stylesheets, PHP, snippets, the database. Here a mistake can take the whole site down rather than one page.
The deeper a tool reaches, the more the other two questions matter: does the AI change the live page or a copy, and can you put back exactly what was there before.
The tools, one by one
1. WordPress.com AI: the Website Builder, the WordPress Agent and MCP
WordPress.com has three AI surfaces. The AI Website Builder generates a new site from a chat and keeps editing it in an AI editor with a live preview; to undo, its help page says to switch to Edit and use the editor’s undo button. It cannot build a store. The WordPress Agent works in the editor on block themes only: it rewrites content, changes the design in the site editor, generates images and can install plugins. Its page does not say whether its edits go live or to a draft.
The third is WordPress.com’s MCP server, which lets Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other clients work on the site. Its write access goes deep for block sites: a single block changed in place, blocks inserted, moved and removed, global styles, synced patterns, templates, menus, widgets, plugins and users. Write operations ask for confirmation first; deleted posts and pages stay in the trash for 30 days, and deleted media, categories and tags are permanent. It needs a paid plan; free sites get 30 days. It also works on self-hosted sites running Jetpack with Jetpack AI or Jetpack Complete.
Can touch: blocks, styles and templates on WordPress.com. Cannot: third-party page-builder layouts. More in Respira vs WordPress.com MCP.
2. Jetpack AI Assistant
Jetpack AI Assistant adds an AI button to core blocks such as Paragraphs, Headings and Lists, plus its own AI Assistant block, in the block editor of any site running Jetpack. You see the text before you keep it and undo with the editor’s undo arrow. There are 20 free requests; the paid plan, $9.95 a month ($4.95 a month the first year), also promises “Connect ChatGPT, Claude & more via MCP”: an outside AI can then work on posts, pages, blocks and settings through WordPress.com’s MCP.
Can touch: text in blocks, and with MCP posts, pages, blocks and settings. Cannot: page-builder layouts or files.
3. Elementor AI and Angie
Elementor AI works inside the Elementor editor: text, code, image and container generation, paid in credits that come with Elementor One plans (25,000 a month on One) and do not roll over. Angie is Elementor’s free agent plugin: from a chat in wp-admin and the editor it generates full Elementor and Gutenberg pages, widgets and code snippets, and runs site tasks. Its listing shows an MCP server since version 1.1.14, although the product page still calls MCP “coming soon”.
Angie’s product page describes careful defaults for code: Angie Code writes PHP, CSS and JavaScript in a test environment isolated from the live site, nothing is added until you approve it, and snippets have revisions. Its Super Admin Mode, which reaches files, the database and PHP, confirms a plan before bulk changes. The page does not say how a page edit is undone. Angie runs on limited daily credits, and more cannot be bought for now.
Can touch: Elementor and Gutenberg pages, widgets and snippets. Cannot: other builders. See how to edit Elementor pages with AI safely and the Elementor MCP server page.
4. Divi AI and the Divi AI Agent
Divi AI writes text, images and code, generates whole modules and layouts, and builds full sites with Divi Quick Sites, for $193 a year (the price for existing Divi customers) or $21.36 a month. The Divi AI Agent in Divi 5’s Visual Builder adds, edits, clones, moves and deletes elements and changes presets and Theme Builder templates, with a choice of models. Its “Past Prompts” revert the build to an earlier state. Agent use is metered separately from the unlimited generation, with $5 of agent spend a month included.
Can touch: anything in Divi. Cannot: other builders, or a site you are not editing in the Visual Builder.
5. 10Web
10Web is a hosted WordPress builder where a set of agents plans and builds a change, with a visual editor that can undo any change. It can redesign an existing site from its address, and a site can be exported. Its pricing page says the editor is based on Elementor, and plans start at $10 a month with daily backups and staging.
Can touch: sites on 10Web. Cannot: a site hosted elsewhere, until it moves.
6. ZipWP
ZipWP, whose plans include Astra Pro and Spectra Pro, generates a WordPress site on its own hosting that you can export to any host, and migrates existing WordPress sites to its hosting. Later edits happen in the block editor, Spectra or Elementor. ZipWP also offers an MCP connection for agents, which creates, clones and deletes whole sites. Plans start at $99 a year, and the Hobby plan uses your own hosting. For undo it lists daily backups and staging.
Can touch: sites it generates and WordPress sites you migrate to its hosting. Cannot: page content through its MCP, which works on whole sites.
7. CodeWP
CodeWP generated WordPress code. Automattic bought its maker, WPAI, in December 2024, and codewp.ai now redirects to Telex, Automattic’s AI tool for building blocks and themes. Telex itself has since been retired; its page points people to the WordPress.com AI Website Builder and to coding tools such as WordPress Studio, Claude Code and Codex. Neither is in the table. My older comparison, Respira vs CodeWP, now carries a note saying so.
8. AI Engine
AI Engine by Meow Apps, 90,000+ installs, writes drafts in its Content Studio and runs an MCP server. In the free version an agent can work on posts, comments and media; Pro ($79 a year for one site) adds plugin, theme, database, WooCommerce and translation tools. It works with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and other providers. Its pages do not mention page-builder layouts or an undo for MCP changes.
Can touch: posts, comments and media; with Pro, plugins, themes and the database. Cannot: builder layouts as such.
9. The WordPress MCP Adapter with Claude or ChatGPT, and WordPress’s own AI plugin
The MCP Adapter is the WordPress project’s bridge between abilities and MCP, version 0.7.0 since 2 October 2026. Its listing says it does not provide any AI features itself. Connected to Claude or ChatGPT on a plain site, it gives them very little: WordPress 7.0 and 7.1 register three read-only core abilities (site, user and environment info), which only 7.1 marks as public for MCP. Everything else comes from plugins that register their own abilities, and each of those decides what a published page sees.
Separately, the WordPress AI team’s AI plugin adds titles, excerpts, alt text, meta descriptions, resizing and translation of selected blocks, and applying editorial notes, in the block editor, with a connector to Anthropic, Google or OpenAI.
Can touch: what other plugins expose; text in blocks with the AI plugin. Cannot: anything by itself.
10. WPVibe
WPVibe, from the SeedProd team, is a plugin plus a hosted relay for your own AI client, with deep reach: Elementor, Bricks, Breakdance, Beaver Builder and Divi pages written through each builder’s own save pipeline, theme files edited in a sandbox copy of the theme that goes live only when you publish it (with a backup kept), code snippets, WP-CLI, and database writes behind an approval. Posts default to draft and deletes go to the trash. Its FAQ says edits to posts, pages and media go live immediately, as they would in wp-admin.
Pricing is a daily allowance of tool calls across unlimited sites: 100 a day free, up to $899 a year. I compared the two in Respira vs WPVibe.
Can touch: builder pages, theme files, code and the database. Cannot: builders outside its list.
11. Respira for WordPress
Respira for WordPress is a plugin on your site that your own AI connects to: Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex and other MCP clients. It supports 19 page builders and writes pages and posts in 18 of them in their own formats (SeedProd is read only), from Elementor, Divi 4 and 5, Bricks and Beaver Builder to Oxygen, Breakdance, WPBakery and Flatsome, plus the block editor and the Site Editor, so a page still opens in its builder afterwards. It can also write theme stylesheets (CSS, SCSS, LESS and JSON, not PHP) for a user who may edit themes.
On a published page the edit lands on a draft copy, and a person approves it in wp-admin before it goes live, unless the site owner has turned on direct editing. Every page and post write takes a snapshot first, restorable for 90 days. Content goes straight between your site and your AI, not through Respira’s servers. If you would rather not install an AI client, Respira AER, the chat in your Respira dashboard that edits your WordPress sites, works on the same sites.
What it does not do: it does not generate a site and host it, it does not write PHP, and it has no free plan. It costs from €9 a month or €71 a year for one site, with a 7-day free trial. Pricing · How it works.
Can touch: pages and posts in every supported builder except SeedProd, blocks, theme stylesheets. Cannot: PHP, or a published page without your approval.
How to choose
- You want help writing, and you will press Save yourself: Jetpack AI or the WordPress AI plugin. The risk is low because you see every word.
- You are starting a new site: WordPress.com’s AI Website Builder, 10Web or ZipWP, then decide where it is hosted.
- Your sites are all one builder and you edit inside it: that builder’s AI, Divi AI or Elementor AI and Angie.
- Your site is on WordPress.com: its own MCP covers blocks, styles and templates.
- You want Claude or ChatGPT to change a live self-hosted site: pick a connector by the depth it writes and by what it does to a published page. For page-builder sites where clients must not see a half-finished change, try Respira for 7 days.
These tools combine. Divi AI inside the builder and Respira from Claude on the same site is common, and the MCP Adapter runs next to any of the connectors. Questions people ask
What is the best AI WordPress editor?
It depends on how deep the edit goes. For writing and rewriting text in the block editor, Jetpack AI Assistant or WordPress’s own AI plugin. For a new site from a prompt, WordPress.com’s AI Website Builder, 10Web or ZipWP. Inside one builder, that builder’s own AI: Divi AI, Elementor AI or Angie. For changing real pages on live sites built in page builders from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Codex, with a draft copy and undo, Respira for WordPress, which writes 18 page builders in their own formats.
Can AI edit my WordPress site?
Yes. Writing assistants (Jetpack AI, Elementor AI, Divi AI) edit inside the editor while you watch and save. Connectors (WordPress.com MCP, the MCP Adapter, AI Engine, WPVibe, Respira) let an outside AI such as Claude or ChatGPT read and change the site through tools. Before connecting one to a live site, check three things: what it can write, whether a published page changes immediately, and how you undo it.
Which WordPress AI plugin should I install?
Install the one that writes the layer you need. For text in blocks, Jetpack AI or the WordPress AI plugin. For Elementor or Divi, their own AI. For an outside assistant that changes pages, a connector: the MCP Adapter for developers, AI Engine or WPVibe for broad free tools, Respira for page-builder sites where an edit to a published page goes to a copy and can be undone.
Can ChatGPT edit a WordPress site?
Yes, through a connector. ChatGPT connects to WordPress.com sites through WordPress.com’s MCP, and to self-hosted sites through an MCP server such as Respira, WPVibe or AI Engine, with a browser sign-in. Pasting HTML from ChatGPT into a page builder gives you a code block your client cannot edit; a connector writes native elements instead.
How do I connect Claude to WordPress?
Install an MCP server on the site and add it in Claude. With Respira, Claude Desktop takes a bundle, Claude Cowork a one-click plugin, and Claude Code one command. The full setup is at respira.press/integrations/claude, and the Claude Code walkthrough is at respira.press/blog/claude-code-wordpress.
Can AI edit pages built with Elementor, Divi or Bricks?
Each builder’s own AI edits its own pages: Elementor AI and Angie for Elementor, Divi AI for Divi. From an outside assistant, WPVibe writes Elementor, Bricks, Breakdance, Beaver Builder and Divi through each builder’s save pipeline, and Respira writes those and more in each builder’s own format. A tool that only edits post content cannot change a builder page without breaking it.
What if the AI breaks a published page?
With most writing assistants, you notice before you save. With a connector, it depends on the tool: some change the live page at once, some keep revisions or backups. Respira puts the edit on a draft copy you approve, and takes a snapshot before every page and post write that you can restore for 90 days.
How I put this together
I read each tool’s own product page, help centre article or WordPress.org listing on 15 October 2026 and linked the source next to each claim. Prices are what each vendor publishes; some vendors show prices in your local currency, so yours may differ. Where a page does not say what happens to a published page or how a change is undone, the table says “not stated” rather than guessing. If something here is out of date, write to word@respira.press and I will correct it.
